Halton School Boards will benefit from approximately $77 million in new funding to build schools in Milton. The announcement was made this morning by Education Minister Stephen Lecce, Milton MPP Parm Gill, and Premier Doug Ford.

“I am proud to keep fighting for the families and students of Milton. As a father of three, investments into our children’s education is a top priority for me,” Gill said. The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) will be receiving $58.5 million.

“We look forward to proceeding with the next phase of the approval process so that we can begin construction on these two schools,” HCDSB Trustee Marvin Dutarte said. 41.3 million will be spent a new secondary school for 1,542 students. $17.2 million for an Elementary School for 671 students with 88 new licensed child care spaces, and five new child care rooms.

HDSB will be getting $19.1 million for SW12 Elementary School. “Special thanks has to go to MPP Parm Gill, Trustee Heather Gerrits, and our incredible staff at the Halton District School Board who continued to build support and advocate for this much needed school,” HDSB Trustee Donna Danielli said. The new school will have room for 770 students, 88 new licensed child care spaces and five new child care rooms.

Education Minister Stephen Lecce also took the opportunity to announce more details on how the province would redesign schools with physical distancing in mind. “We are going to make new investments to enhance that ability to do that. That includes new supports for school boards,” Lecce said. The Halton District School Board (HDSB) has announced it will not be submitting a plan for a proposed hybrid option involving both online, and in-class options. Lecce’s announcement will come tomorrow.
