The Town of Milton will mark Pride Month with two rainbow crosswalks, and rainbow benches. The moves are in addition to raising the Pride Flag.
The crosswalks will be in downtown Milton at the intersections of Brown and Main St. and Charles and Main St. Milton Public Library will make rainbow benches available year round to represent a safe space for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
Milton will be the third Halton municipality to institute the sidewalks and benches.
Fallout from HCDSB’s Flag Decision Continues
The fallout from Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB)’s decision on flying the rainbow flag continues. By Wednesday the majority of the board’s high-schools were flying the rainbow flag, and some even change their logos to match.
Students have written an open letter back to the board saying discussions would be no substitute for flying the flag. “By flying the pride flag you demonstrate to the community that your schools are safe spaces where students, staff, and families are seen and supported.”
Parents have started a petition asking the Board to reverse their position arguing that it violates Catholic moral principles as well as the Ontario human rights code. The petition has gathered over 19,000 signatures to-date.
