Town of Milton to Talk Budget 2018

The Town of Milton is inviting residents and businesses to talk about the 2018 Capital and Operating budgets.  An online survey is available for a short period from May 30-June 16.

There are two ways to participate.  Fill out the survey online, or answer a phone call from Nanos research.  The phone number will display as: 416-493-1965. “As residents and business owners, you can help us shape priorities for Town Infrastructure, programs, and services via the budget survey,” said Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Linda Leeds.

Every year the Town prepares Capital, and operating budgets in order to deliver programs, and infrastructure.  “We listen closely and carefully consider your thoughts, and opinions as an integral part of the budget process,” Leeds said.

The budget development process follows these steps:

May and June: Public input takes place via online and phone surveys

  • July: Budget guidelines are approved by Council
  • Summer and fall: Town staff develop the budget, including consideration of the survey results and Council-approved guidelines
  • December: Council deliberates and approves the budget.

Municipal taxes paid to the Town of Milton get distributed as follows:

  • Town of Milton: 34%
  • Region of Halton: 41%
  • Boards of Education: 25%

The Region of Halton, and both boards of education develop their own budgets.  The 2017 municipal budget resulted in a 5% increase in the Town’s budget.  This included a 4.56% increase for the urban area, and a 11.14% in the rural area.
