Winter weather begins this afternoon with blowing snow and possible accumulations of 6-12 cm. Our operations crews have anti-iced all major routes, and our trucks, salt and sand are ready to go.
Here is what you need to know about snow:
Priority roads – Regional/arterial/collector: Once 2 cm of snow has accumulated, roads are plowed in a priority sequence, starting with Regional roads, followed by arterial and then collector roads. These roads are cleared to bare pavement within 2 to 12 hours after the end of the storm, depending on how much snow has accumulated.
Residential roads: These roads are plowed after the priority areas have been cleared and once 10 cm of snow has accumulated. The plowing starts as soon as the storm has ended. Residential roads are plowed to a “snow packed” standard and not “bare pavement” as these roads are a different classification than priority roads.
Parking: During a storm, please “allow the plow” by NOT parking your car on the street. Street parking exceptions are suspended during some storms; watch our social media feeds for updates.
Shoveling snow: Please clear your sidewalks and do not shovel or blow snow onto sidewalks, roads or Town property as this is against the by-law (#115-2005.)
