As the smell of pumpkin spice lattes fills the air and the days become chillier, it can only mean one thing: it’s time to hit the road and take in the city’s fall colours.
Regardless of whether you are an avid hiker, a long-drive lover or just want to tag along for some Instagram-worthy pictures, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Halton Hills this fall season.
While exploring the great outdoors is always a fine choice, the perfect time to catch the trees at their most vibrant fall foliage is early October.
Here are some of nature’s most beautiful sights with scenic drives, hiking trails and refreshing walks in and around Halton Hills.
Silvercreek Conservation Area
Location: Fallbrook Trail and Side Road 27, Halton Hills
Located on over a thousand acres, this park offers a taste of wilderness away from the city. With a handful of trails to explore, you will surely find the most picturesque scenery. These trails include the Bennett Heritage Side Trail, Bruce Trail, Great Esker Side Trail, Irwin Quarry Side Trail, Roberts Side Trail and Walking Fern Side Trail. The park has a branch of the Credit River and a vast valley of the Niagara Escarpment.

Limehouse Conservation Area
Location: 12169 Fifth Line, Limehouse
Known as the “Hole in the Wall,” where ladders lead to cracks and gaps within the escarpment rocks, this park is an important part of Ontario’s heritage, helping preserve the historic remnants of the lime extraction industry. You can explore huge lime kilns, an old powderhouse and three trails — the Radial Rail Trail, Bruce Trail and Black Creek Side Trail.

Terra Cotta Conservation Area
Location: 14452 Winston Churchill Blvd, Halton Hills
Offering a variety of hiking trails and fall fest events in October, this park has something for all. From Oct. 5 to 20, you can explore the breathtaking fall forest at the conservation area by wagon ride. The interactive guided tour will allow participants to both see and learn about the nature around them and how it transforms over the seasons. The area also has several trails, including McGregor Spring Trail, Vaughan Trail, Terra Cotta Lane, Wetland Trail, A.F. Coventry Trail, Escarpment Trail, Forest Meadow Lane, Graydon Trail and Forest Meadow Loop.
