The Milton Public Library (MPL) is revolutionizing access to technology in the community with innovative tools, resources, and programs designed to spark creativity, enhance learning, and bridge the digital divide.
With state-of-the-art technology hubs, educational devices, and inclusive initiatives, MPL is setting the standard for fostering digital literacy and innovation in Milton.
A key feature is the Tech Hub at the Sherwood Branch, which boasts tools like the Cricut Maker 3, Cricut Mug Press, a 3D printer, a sublimation printer, coding kits, multimedia production software, and an interactive digital screen.
These resources enable patrons to bring their creative ideas to life, from intricate designs to customized projects. The new technology will be introduced to the public in the coming months.
Earlier this year, the Sherwood Branch hosted a highly successful Tech Fair, drawing over 1,000 attendees. The event featured 20 vendors from diverse tech industries, offering hands-on demonstrations of the latest advancements.
The fair also marked the launch of MPL’s tech collect project, which allows patrons to drop off discarded technology for recycling at the Sherwood Branch during regular hours, promoting sustainability and responsible e-waste management.
The MPL is equally committed to its younger audience, offering AWE tablets at all branches, preloaded with over 75 interactive educational programs. The Main Library recently added six desktop AWE stations and a new computer table.
Additionally, all branches feature laptop kiosks stocked with iPads, MacBooks, and Dell laptops for in-library use, as well as 3D printing services, public computers, and free Wi-Fi.
The Main Library now provides in-branch charging packs for phones, computers, and other devices, enhancing convenience for visitors.
To ensure accessibility for all patrons, desktop stations have been introduced at the Beaty and Sherwood branches, complementing those already available at the Main Library. Recognizing that some patrons prefer non-portable devices, these stations offer a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone, underscoring MPL’s dedication to equitable service.
The library also offers tech-related programming designed to empower users of all ages and skill levels.
Through workshops and interactive sessions, patrons can explore new technologies, develop practical digital skills, and build confidence in using innovative tools in a supportive environment.
“At Milton Public Library, we’re committed to making technology accessible and empowering our community with tools to learn, create, and innovate,” said Sarah Douglas-Murray, CEO/Chief Librarian of MPL.
“The success of events like Tech Fair and our diverse range of resources and programs reflect our mission to meet the evolving needs of our patrons and inspire lifelong learning.”
