For the fifth year in a row, the vibrant hues of spring will arrive early in Georgetown for the annual Holi celebration on Saturday, March 7.

Hosted by Georgetown resident Aditee Goswami, the “festival of colour” event, taking place at Norval United Church (14015 Danby Rd., Georgetown) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will have all proceeds donated to the Georgetown Hospital and Cancer Assistance Halton Hills.

“Health care is an important part of our community,” Goswami said. She also serves on the Georgetown Hospital Foundation’s development and recognition committee, as well as Cancer Assistance Halton Hills’ board of directors.

“We always donate to Georgetown Hospital because it is very close to our heart,” she added. “We need to support them to have a bigger hospital in the town.”

The Holi celebration, which marks the arrival of spring, is one of two major events Goswami organizes each year, alongside a Diwali festival in October.

She noted that over the years, the two annual events have raised varying amounts for local health care, with Diwali once bringing in as much as $2,500.

Goswami also said the community has been “very generous” in supporting health-care initiatives, but added that continued fundraising is crucial.

“I think we will need another hospital in the next 10 years,” she said. “We need funds for that, and grassroots events like this are a step in the right direction.”

The celebration begins indoors from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with a vendor market featuring food, music and local goods, including clothes, candles and even Easter items.

Once the market concludes, attendees will head outside for the “colour play.”

Goswami explained that participants will use dry coloured powders sold on-site to throw and that they are organic and easy to wash off.

Tickets for the event are $5 and can be purchased online.
