The 2025 federal election is now underway, with voting day scheduled for April 28, 2025. As part of a boundary review, Milton has been divided into two ridings: Burlington North- Milton West, and Halton Hills South- Milton East.

To help voters make an informed decision, we are doing profiles of candidates from both ridings. April 16 2025, we emailed the same five questions to all candidates, giving a week in which to answer them . The final profiles will be posted in the order they are received. Mr. Ahmed was the first to respond from Burlington-North-Milton West.

  1. According to Halton Regional Police, 52 cars have been stolen since January 1, of this year. What would your party do to stop it?

Naveed Ahmed: The provincial NDP has already criticized the Ford government’s focus on post-crime measures instead of addressing the root causes. The need for preventative strategies to stop thefts before they occur was already emphasized.

2.The average house price in Milton is $1,003,587. What is your party’s plan to make housing more affordable?

Naveed Ahmed: The NDP has outlined a comprehensive strategy to address affordability across the province which will directly impact communities like Milton.

Following are the initiatives:
NDP proposed “Homes Ontario” plan, aiming to build at least 250,000 permanently affordable homes throughout the province, focusing on expanding public, non-profit, and co-operative housing sectors to increase supply of affordable, non-market housing.
  • Federally, the NDP plans to establish an $8Billion homes transfer over 4 years to incentivize municipalities to:
  • Issue permits for more multi unit housing developments.
  • Prioritize housing projects near public transit routes.
  • Accelerate approval of housing permits.
  • Ensure that 20% of all new housing in every neighborhood is non-market housing.
  • An additional $8Billion is proposed for communities first fund. NDP also intends to increase

3.   What makes your leader the best suited to be Prime Minister?

Naveed Ahmed: Jagmeet Singh brings a mix of personal resilience, political experience, and progressive vision that many of his supporters believe makes him well-suited to be Prime Minister. Here are some key reasons often cited:
  • Authentic Leadership and Lived Experience
  • Progressive Policy Vision
  • Strong Communication and Empathy
  • Track Record of Results
  • Standing Up to Powerful Interests
  • Inclusive, Forward-Looking Politics

  • Emissions Reduction in Agriculture
It reflects NDP’s commitment to supporting farmers in the transition to sustainable agriculture while addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
5.  The CN Intermodal, and the Campbellville Quarry are two projects that have faced strong opposition in Milton. How do you intend to advocate on these issues on behalf of your constituents?
Naveed Ahmed:If I get elected elected, I’ll have several ways to oppose environmentally and socially disruptive projects like these ones.

I will use parliamentary tools to raise the issue like question period and statements in the house. I will write petitions and motions. I can also leverage NDP’s environmental and infrastructure policy. I will collaborate with local and national stakeholders and demand federal accountability.
