Canada is temporarily removing the rule governing how many hours international students work. The decision to ease the 20 hour limit applies to those working in essential services such as healthcare, critical infrastructure or the food supply chain.
“Immigrants, temporary foreign workers, and international students are making important contributions as frontline workers in health care and other essential service sectors,” Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marco Mendocino said. The rule change will be effective until August 31, 2020.
According to Statistics Canada, international students represent approximately 4% of health-care students in 2017-2018.
