Conservation Halton Honored as Top Employer in Hamilton-Niagara Region

Conservation Halton has once again earned the prestigious title of one of Hamilton-Niagara’s Top Employers for the second consecutive year, as revealed by Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The annual competition, recognizing organizations in Hamilton, Burlington, and Niagara, highlights those demonstrating progressive and forward-thinking leadership in their respective sectors.

The announcement of the 2024 winners was featured in a special edition of the Hamilton Spectator. Conservation Halton’s President and CEO, Hassaan Basit, attributes the accolade to the organization’s dedicated staff and visionary leadership.

Serving in his current role for the past seven years, Basit expressed his pride in supporting teams committed to the mandate of being a community-based environmental agency. He commended the culture of innovation within Conservation Halton, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to creativity, collaboration, and inclusion across all levels and departments.

The evaluation process for the top employers considered eight categories, including workplace environment, health benefits, vacation policies, and community involvement. Conservation Halton’s win underscores its exceptional offerings, such as flexible work arrangements, competitive salaries, generous vacation allowances, and benefits, including a full year of maternity and parental leave top-up for new parents.

The organization’s commitment to lifelong learning and leadership development was also acknowledged, exemplified by programs like the “Emerging Innovation Leaders” initiative developed in collaboration with the DeGroote School of Business.

Director of Human Resources Plezzie Ramirez, expressed delight in being recognized as one of the region’s top employers, highlighting the organization’s dedication to fostering a sense of connection and belonging among its workforce. Ramirez emphasized that employee wellness remains a top priority.

All Conservation Halton staff, whether full-time, contract, or seasonal, enjoy wellness-promoting perks, including a Season Pass to Glen Eden for skiing and snowboarding, free Conservation Halton Parks membership, discounts on park programs, food, and merchandise, as well as early bird access to popular events. Entry-level positions begin above minimum wage at $17 per hour.
