Conservation Halton President/CEO Hassaan Basit Steps Down

Conservation Halton bids farewell to its President and Chief Executive Officer, Hassaan Basit, who will resign from his position effective April 18, 2024, to take on the role of City Manager with the City of Burlington. Basit’s departure marks the end of an era following his remarkable eight-year tenure at the helm of Conservation Halton.

Gerry Smallegange, Chair of the Conservation Halton Board, commended Basit’s leadership and expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization. Smallegange stated, “Hassaan Basit has been an invaluable leader during his eight-year tenure as President and CEO of Conservation Halton, and nearly two decades of dedicated service with the organization.” He highlighted Basit’s transformative influence, guiding Conservation Halton through challenges such as the pandemic and evolving regulatory landscapes.

Basit’s visionary approach has reshaped Conservation Halton’s business model by introducing two groundbreaking strategic plans: the Metamorphosis plan in 2017 and the Momentum plan in 2021. These initiatives bolstered financial stability and growth and fostered a culture of innovation, collaboration, and environmental stewardship within the organization.

Basit expressed gratitude for his time at Conservation Halton, saying, “It has been a privilege of a lifetime working at Conservation Halton for close to 20 years.” He acknowledged the dedicated team and board members, emphasizing the enriching experience of serving the community.

Basit’s legacy of leadership and commitment to sustainability will endure as Conservation Halton embarks on the search for a suitable replacement. The organization extends its sincere appreciation to Basit for his exceptional contributions.
