Enbridge Gas Inc. assists Milton Fire & Rescue Services in purchasing essential firefighting training materials through the Safe Community Project Assist program.

In partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC), this initiative supplements the existing training of Ontario’s volunteer and composite fire departments in communities where Enbridge Gas operates.

“At Enbridge, safety is at the centre of everything we do and a value we live by,” said Gerry Pumphrey, Manager of Operations, GTA West, Enbridge Gas.

“We are committed to providing emergency response training support to Ontario firefighters so they can continually learn, improve, and protect the vibrant and healthy communities they call home.”

Enbridge Gas’s $125,000 investment this year will be distributed among 25 Ontario fire departments, including Milton Fire & Rescue Services. The funds will be used to purchase educational materials that help firefighters enhance their life-saving skills. Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 369 grants have been awarded to Ontario fire departments to support firefighter training.

“Fire departments train every single day, and it’s crucial for them to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe,” said Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC.

“Safe Community Project Assist helps departments afford these training tools and improves the ongoing learning that occurs across Ontario.”

Chief Peter Gatto of Milton Fire & Rescue Services said, “Through Safe Community Project Assist, we are able to provide our firefighters with valuable training supports and materials aimed at enhancing skills and ultimately improving our ability to protect our growing community. We are extremely thankful to Enbridge Gas and the FMPFSC for their generous support.”

Milton Fire & Rescue Services has served the community for over 150 years, providing 24/7 fire protection and emergency services. The FMPFSC, established in 1993, promotes fire prevention and public education and aims to create “a world where no one is hurt by fire.”
