The Halton police human trafficking unit arrested five people and laid multiple charges after a five-month human trafficking investigation.
The Police began an investigation in May 2024 into a human trafficking ring that was operating in the Halton region and the Greater Toronto Area. The Police said that between Sept. 2019 and Sept. 2024, the accused parties used coercion, deception, manipulation, physical violence, and psychological harm to maintain control, direction, or influence over the victims.
During the investigation, the investigators identified five suspects.
On Sept. 17, 2024, the Police executed five Criminal Code search warrants at various residences in Brampton and Toronto.
The five identified suspects arrested included Prince Munroe (35) of Brampton, also known as Casino Barnes, Sabrina Leite-Moniz (25) of Brampton, also known as Lady SB, Jamie Munroe (33) of Mississauga, Jonathan Bennett (25) of Shelburne and Shuwyane Mitchell (30) of Courtice and they were charged with various offences. The Police recovered a loaded firearm, ammunition, a prohibited magazine, a large sum of cash, a vehicle seized as offence-related property and victim identity documents from their possession.
The Halton police were assisted by the Peel, Toronto, Niagara and Peterborough Police Services in this investigation.
