In a solemn session at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Milton, Harrison Brown, the man arrested for the 2021 double murder of Krystyna and Andrzej Rerak, has been handed a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Brown pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Krystyna and second-degree murder in the death of Andrzej.

The tragic incident unfolded on February 17, 2021, when emergency services responded to an explosion at a residence on Hidden Lake Trail in Halton Hills (Georgetown). Fire crews, while battling the blaze, discovered the lifeless bodies of Krystyna and Andrzej Rerak inside the home.

A comprehensive investigation, jointly conducted by Halton Police, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Office of the Chief Coroner/Ontario Forensic Pathology Services, revealed that the fire was intentionally set, marking the deaths as homicides. On March 26, 2021, Harrison Brown, then 27, from Mississauga, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and arson.

During sentencing, Justice C. Conlan delivered the verdict, condemning Brown to life imprisonment and stressing that he would not be eligible for parole for the next 25 years.

The Halton Police expressed gratitude to the community for their unwavering support and cooperation throughout the investigation, acknowledging community members’ vital role in reaching this resolution. While the pain of losing Krystyna and Andrzej Rerak lingers, authorities hope that this sentencing brings some measure of healing to the grieving family and the community at large.
