Halton Hills marks Black History Month with free events

Halton Hills is celebrating Black History Month with a series of free events.

 

The lineup features an opportunity to view the work of visual artist Komi Olaf, as well as meet the artist, a screening of a film exploring the story of a Somali runner’s journey to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, a Black History Month storytime session and a couple of online book talks.

 

Here are the events happening at the Halton Hills Public Library and Cultural Centre (9 Church St.) in Georgetown:

 

Afrofuturism: Embers of Solitude Exhibition

 

When Feb. 3 to March 1 during the Helson Gallery’s operating hours, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays to Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays

 

Where Upper Sisnett Lobby at the Helson Gallery

 

TIFF OnScreen at the JET presents: ‘Samia’

 

When Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Reading Corner: It’s Cool to Read with Newton Vanriel

Swashbuckling Heroines and High Seas Adventures with Novelist Vanessa Riley

 

When Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
