In celebration of Canadian Library Month, the Halton Hills Public Library (HHPL) is launching a new library card campaign with resources and programs for children and youth in the community.

Throughout the month of October, libraries and their partners around the country come together to raise awareness of the important role libraries play in the lives of Canadians.

With this year’s theme being, “Unlock Curiosity: One Card. Endless Opportunities,” HHPL aims to highlight how families can benefit from the various programming, resources and materials available for youth.

“We are thrilled to launch this campaign and remind our community of the endless opportunities available with a library card,” said Beverley King, chief librarian and CEO, in a media release issued Wednesday.

Families with a library membership can access kid-friendly activities, including bilingual programming, support for young readers, free online tutoring and homework help, and welcoming family-friendly spaces. Additionally, members who are 24 years of age and under or 65 years of age and older can benefit from fine-free borrowing.

Meanwhile, teens are invited to explore HHPL’s collections of books, video games, music, movies and other resources without the concern of late fines. The library also provides spaces for relaxation, collaboration and creative expression, giving teens the opportunity to experiment with the latest technology, book study rooms with friends and to channel their creativity in the makerspace.

“Whether you’re looking for learning support, a creative outlet, or simply a place to unwind, the library has something for everyone. We encourage you to unlock your curiosity,” said King.

Residents can sign up for a library card at both locations of the library. More information is available on the library website.
