Halton Hills Public Library to host outreach sessions for legal aid, domestic violence support

Residents seeking legal guidance or support for domestic violence will have access to two free drop-in outreach sessions at the Halton Hills Public Library.

 

On Friday, Jan. 9, representatives from Halton Women’s Place and Halton Community Legal Services will be available to provide confidential assistance and resources to the community.

 

Halton Women’s Place outreach

 

Halton Women’s Place, a non-profit dedicated to supporting abused women and their dependent children, will hold concurrent sessions at both the Georgetown (9 Church St.) and Acton (17 River St.) branches.

 

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., individuals can drop in to learn about its community-based services, including:

 

  Crisis counselling and safety planning

 

  Support for women and children experiencing abuse

 

  Referrals to essential community resources

Individuals in crisis can call their 24-hour crisis intervention and support lines at 905-878-8555.

 

Legal advice clinic in Acton

 

The Halton Community Legal Services Mobile Outreach Clinic will be stationed at the Acton branch from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Legal professionals will be on-site to offer free advice and answer questions spanning a range of legal topics, including:

 

  Housing and employment Tenants’ rights, employment standards and employment insurance

 

  Social assistance Ontario Works and disability benefits

 

  Rights and pensions Human rights inquiries and government pensions
