Halton Police have arrested and charged an individual concerning a vehicle theft and an attempted carjacking.
The events unfolded when a vigilant police officer attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle in Halton Hills, which was later identified as a stolen vehicle from Georgetown. Despite police signalling for the vehicle to stop, the driver refused to comply, ultimately veering into a ditch near Fourth Line and Number 5 Side Road. Evading capture, the driver fled the scene on foot.
In a separate incident later that morning, around 9:10 am, the same suspect attempted to carjack a parked vehicle near Steeles Avenue East and James Snow Parkway in Milton. The suspect forcefully attempted to gain entry into the occupied vehicle. Still, the driver managed to secure the doors, prompting the suspect to flee again.
Law enforcement officers could track down and apprehend the suspect following a brief foot pursuit. Tom Fournier, an 18-year-old resident of Pincourt, Quebec, now faces a series of charges, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, fleeing from police, and attempted robbery.
