For the third consecutive year, the Halton Regional Police Service is proud to announce the commencement of its annual Kozy Kids initiative, a program aimed at ensuring that underserved youth across the Halton Region are well-equipped for the upcoming winter season.
Initiated in 2021, the Kozy Kids program was inspired by the awareness that many children, particularly newcomers to Canada, were consistently absent from school during the winter months due to their families’ inability to afford winter clothing. One hundred five students were identified as needing assistance in the Town of Milton alone. Through the generous contributions of Halton residents and local business owners, gently used clothing and financial donations were collected, ensuring that all identified children received a snowsuit or winter jacket.
Building on the success of the inaugural year, and with the support of financial donations, the Halton Police expanded the initiative in the following year by ordering new snowsuits tailored to size, benefiting 475 youth.
Recognizing the ongoing challenges posed by the rising cost of living in the region, the Halton Police are collaborating with local community partners to identify more families needing support.
Starting today and running until November 21st, the community is invited to participate by purchasing new snowsuits (youth sizes 6-16) and dropping them off at collection boxes located at the Halton Police Headquarters and each of the District buildings:
2485 North Service Road West, Oakville, ON. (8:00 am – 4:00 pm)
3800 Constable Henshaw Blvd., Burlington, ON. (8:00 am – 10:00 pm)
95 Oak Walk Drive, Oakville ON. (8:00 am – 10:00 pm)
490 Childs Drive, Milton, ON. (8:00 am – 10:00 pm)
217 Guelph Street, Georgetown, ON. (8:00 am – 4:00 pm)
Chief of Police Stephen J. Tanner expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire Service, stating, “When you donate, you’re not just helping to keep kids warm as they travel to and from school, you’re giving them the opportunity to explore and learn in the great outdoors for what can otherwise be isolating months. We’ve seen firsthand the joy and excitement that your donations bring to children in our community, and on behalf of myself and the entire Service, we thank you for warming both the bodies and hearts of those who need us the most.”
