With the commencement of the 2023 academic year and students returning to school, Halton Police have intensified its efforts to promote road safety under the motto “Always Be Cautious” (ABC). In addition to education initiatives, the police force has bolstered enforcement measures in school and community safety zones.
The 16th Annual Project Safe Start campaign, from August 28 to September 8, yielded substantial results. One thousand nine hundred forty-seven charges were filed, and 1,389 warnings were issued across the Halton Region during this period. Common offences included failure to stop at stop signs, speeding, failure to display two license plates, and driving while holding a handheld communication device.
Expressing gratitude for the community’s support, Stephen J. Tanner, Chief of Police at Halton Regional Police Service, stated, “We’d like to thank the public, our community partners, and the media for their continued support of Project Safe Start. While the campaign has officially wrapped up for another year, our work is by no means done. We ask that you do your job as drivers to obey the rules of the road, and trust that we will be doing our job to enforce them. Road safety is a year-round priority, and we’re committed to making our roads safer for you and children across our Region. Together, let’s not just have a safe start, but a safe year.”
