Halton Region Begins Winding Down COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics

By: Laura Steiner

Halton Region is starting to wind down its COVID-19 vaccine clinics.  Locations at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH), and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) will be closed effective August 16, 2021.

“We have reached a significant milestone in our COVID-19 vaccine rollout with 81% of the residents have received one dose, while 65% of residents have been fully vaccinated.” Residents with appointments  on or after August 16 at Joseph Brant, and Oakville Hospital are being notified of the decision, and given the option to book at another clinic, or through a pharmacy, or  primary care provider.  Approximately 7,000 patients had appointments booked.

“I am grateful for our hospital partners who have been instrumental in the Halton vaccine rollout and provided high quality care to our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Halton Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hamidah Meghani said in a news release.  The OTMH vaccine centre will have administered 200,000, and JBH will have given 58,000 vaccines by August 15.

The Region will also work to consolidate community clinics by the end of the summer as COVID-19 vaccines become more available through pharmacies and primary care settings while continuing community outreach.  Some clinics will offer non-COVID vaccines.   Residents are encouraged to book an appointment online. Walk-in appointments are available at select clinics.  For more information on how to book, visit the Region’s website
