Improvements Completed At Square One GO Bus Terminal

Metrolinx has completed improvements to the Square One Bus Terminal that will make it easier for customers to take GO Transit.

The upgraded terminal now features a new station building to better serve customers and meet growing demand.  The building includes three GO service windows, accessible public washrooms and a climate-controlled waiting area. Other improvements to the terminal include:

• a new public address and CCTV system along the bus platforms
• three new ticket vending machines–two near the platforms and one by the station building
• PRESTO card balance checker.
• monitors displaying bus routes and platforms

“I am pleased that the much needed Go Bus Terminal is now open. It means that those of us who take the GO Bus from Square One now have a heated place to wait during the winter and a cool place in the summer,” M.P.P. for Mississauga-East-Cooksville Dipka Damerla said.

Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province’s history — about $160 billion over 12 years, which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province, with projects such as roads, bridges, transit systems, schools and hospitals.  In 2015, the province announced support for more than 325 projects that will keep people and goods moving, connect communities and improve quality of life.

Improving GO Transit is part of the government’s economic plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs.  An average of 20,000 customers/ day pass through the Square One Bus Terminal.

New parking Structure, Station Building proposed for Milton

Milton Residents voiced their concerns over transit at a Transit Town Hall in November.  They included worries over having enough parking, and service.  “The Metrolinx station access and parking plan calls for expansion in the next several years,” Metrolinx Spokesperson Kim Johnson said in an email.  Plans include a new multi-level parking structure, and a new station building and an expanded bus loop.

Track ownership remains a barrier to full-day service on the Milton line.  Canada-Pacific (C.P.) owns 100% of it.  Johnson said Metrolinx is working with both C.P. and Canadian National (C.N.) on improving service.  “We will continue to work with our partners and the regions we serve, and welcome municipal interest in this matter,” she said.
