The Townsend Smith Foundation (TSF), a grassroots charity dedicated to enhancing hospice care, is delighted to announce that Lisa Raitt has joined their growing team of committed volunteer leaders. Together, they aim to bring critical healthcare infrastructure to North Halton in the form of a cutting-edge hospice residence complemented by comprehensive palliative care programs and services.

TSF Board of Directors Chair Astrid Lakats emphasized the importance of community involvement in funding healthcare projects. She explained, “As with all healthcare initiatives today, raising funds within the community is imperative, be it for hospitals or the construction and operation of a hospice.”

Thanks to the generous support received thus far, TSF has secured land at the strategic intersection of Trafalgar Rd and 5 Sideroad. They are now advancing into the next development phase, engaging architects and experts to steer the project toward fruition.

Lakats commented, “While we anticipate challenges in engaging our community, we’ve witnessed how the significance of establishing a hospice residence resonates with people, leading to their generous contributions.”

Ms. Raitt, a former Canadian politician who served as both a federal Cabinet minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for the community, articulated her reasons for joining the capital fundraising effort, stating, “I understand the profound impact that charities like the Townsend Smith Foundation have on building stronger communities. It was an easy choice for me to volunteer my assistance.”

TSF’s hospice care vision prioritizes residents’ comfort and quality of life, focusing on alleviating pain and suffering. Additionally, it will provide essential support to the needs of families and friends within a compassionate environment.
