Manitoba Votes Progressive Conservative

Manitoba’s provincial election ended with Progressive Conservative (P.C.) majority government led by Brian Pallister.

“On behalf of the government of Canada, I offer my sincere congratulations to Brian Pallister and the Progressive Party of Manitoba on their electoral victory,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement.

The P.C. victory ends 4 terms of New Democratic Party (N.D.P.)rule in Manitoba under former Premier Greg Selinger.  “I also extend my heartfelt thanks to Greg Selinger for his contributions to the province and the country during his time as Premier,” Trudeau said.

Selinger raised Manitoba’s Provincial Sales Tax (P.S.T) from 7% to 8% in 2013.   The P.C.’s made reversing the hike a major part of their platform during the 2015 campaign.   Selinger resigned the N.D.P leadership, but keeps his seat as Member of Legislative Assembly (M.L.A.) for St. Boniface.
