“Every Child Matters” is the message behind a memorial in the Gazebo at Victoria Park in Milton.
The memorial is part of efforts to honour the memories of 215 Indigenous children, whose remains were found on the grounds at Kamloops Residential School on Thursday.
The victims are thought be as young as three years old.
The display was organized by students from Queen of Heaven, Bishop Reding Secondary School, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary school, and Bruce Trail Public School. It was installed Monday, with the Town of Milton’s support and will remain for 215 hours. The Town of Milton will also lower flags to half-mast to honour them.
The last Residential School was closed in 1996. To learn more, and support the survivors please visit the Indian Residential School Survivors’ Society’s website
