The Town of Milton has introduced a new Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) program to enhance parking enforcement and community safety.
The program, which officially launched on March 3, 2025, uses camera-equipped by-law vehicles to detect illegally parked or stopped vehicles in violation of town parking by-laws.
The LPR system automatically captures images of vehicles in violation, issuing tickets that are mailed to registered owners.
Each ticket will include details of the infraction, an image of the vehicle and licence plate, and instructions for payment or dispute.
Officials warn that due to the delay in mail delivery, drivers who repeatedly violate parking regulations on consecutive days may receive multiple tickets before being notified of the first infraction.
The program will prioritize enforcement in school zones, community safety zones, and areas with overnight on-street parking restrictions.
Residents can pay parking tickets or penalty notices online or in person at Milton Town Hall.
To dispute a ticket, individuals must submit a review request within 30 days of the notice being issued. Failure to respond by the due date—either by making a payment or requesting a review—will result in an administrative fee.
