Milton Launches We Make Milton Initiative

The Town of Milton has launched its overhaul of the Official Plan; a policy expected to manage the Town’s growth until 2041.   As part of this initiative, it has  launched We Make Milton, a community engagement initiative to encourage residents, businesses and stakeholders to get involved in the decision making process.

The We Make Milton initiative uses engagement practices to reach the community by introducing Milton family and their family and friends.  These characters  have been created based on local demographics and interests to inspire the community to share their input throughout the multi-year project. The first round of community engagement kicks off on July 2 and will be open all summer and fall. The public is encouraged to share comments about what they value and how they want the community to grow using surveys, polls and interactive mapping tools available on the Let’s Talk Milton website.

“Through the We Make Milton engagement process, the new Official Plan’s modern land-use vision and framework will be crafted locally, in partnership with the community,” said Barb Koopmans, Milton’s Commissioner of Planning and Development. “The new Official Plan will support the development of a complete community and manage Milton’s growth for the next 20 years.”

The new Official Plan will include contemporary, strategic and forward-looking planning policies to:

• Provide direction for significant urban growth
• Welcome a young, educated and diverse population
• Facilitate active and healthy lifestyles
• Protect what is valued and foster civic pride

An Official Plan is a legislated and overarching planning document that describes the community’s planning vision and goals and establishes directions for municipal decision-making, including a growth strategy, land-use policies, infrastructure requirements, mobility and transit delivery, design requirements and the protection of resources.
