The Town of Milton says it is fully prepared for the winter season and is reminding residents to take steps now to stay safe during snow and ice events.

Municipal crews are set to maintain more than 2,400 kilometres of Regional and Town roads and over 250 kilometres of sidewalks and walkways throughout the winter months. Officials note that a significant weather event may be declared when forecasts call for 20 centimetres or more of snow, which may extend response times.

When snow begins to fall, plows are deployed based on a priority system. Major roads and transit routes are cleared first, followed by rural collector roads and industrial areas. Residential streets are plowed once higher‑priority routes are safe and passable.

As plows push snow to the right side of the road, windrows can form at the end of driveways. The Town will clear these only for households registered in the Windrow Removal Program; all other residents are responsible for clearing their own. Milton is also encouraging residents to help older adults or neighbours with mobility challenges.

The Town is asking drivers to avoid parking on streets during snow‑clearing operations, as parked vehicles can block plows and create safety hazards. For those who rely on street parking, several designated lots in local parks will remain available for up to 48 hours when parking exceptions are suspended due to storms or significant weather events.

Residents are also being reminded of their role in keeping the community safe. This includes moving vehicles off the road, clearing sidewalks within 24 hours of a storm, and keeping fire hydrants and storm drains free of snow. Drivers are urged to give plows plenty of room and allow extra travel time during winter conditions.

To stay informed during snow events, residents can visit the Town’s winter maintenance webpage or follow Milton on social media. Non‑emergency snow‑clearing concerns should only be reported 24 hours after snowfall ends. Ongoing issues can be submitted through the Town’s Operations contact form or by calling 905‑878‑7282 ext. 2500.

Town officials say messages will be reviewed based on priority, and responses will be provided only when additional clarification is needed, as crews remain focused on snow‑clearing efforts.
