The Town of Milton actively engages with the community to gather public input before crafting a comprehensive Nuisance By-law to enhance the quality of life in local neighbourhoods.
Under the authority granted by the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25, the Town has the power to prohibit and regulate public nuisances, taking into account the economic, social, and environmental well-being of the community, as well as the health, safety, and protection of individuals and property.
Milton’s proposed by-law seeks to mitigate neighbourhood disturbances and establish regulations to prohibit activities that may reasonably impede residents from enjoying their properties. Public input is highly valued to ensure that the by-law effectively addresses community concerns, sets fines appropriately, and preserves the overall quality of life in the Town of Milton.
The Nuisance By-law survey, available on Let’s Talk Milton, poses questions such as defining public nuisances, inquiring about reported incidents, and seeking opinions on the appropriate range of fines to deter nuisances in the Town.
Survey results will be crucial in shaping an updated by-law, subject to Council review and approval in March 2024. If approved, the by-law is anticipated to be enacted in spring 2024.
Residents are encouraged to contribute their input by participating in the Nuisance By-law survey on Let’s Talk Milton, accessible until February 9, 2024. As an incentive, survey participants can win a set of noise-cancelling headphones, with contest rules applied.
