The Milton Town Council has approved renaming two baseball diamonds at Milton Community Sports Park to honour two individuals who were instrumental in the development of minor baseball in Milton.
Milton Community Park Baseball Diamond #1 will be renamed Pete McMullen Diamond in memory of the late Hugh “Pete” McMullen. A pioneer of minor baseball in Milton, McMullen served as President of the Ontario Baseball Association and the Halton County Baseball Association. This November, he will be inducted as a Builder into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame as part of the 2024 Class.
Baseball Diamond #2 will be renamed Glenn Turner Diamond in recognition of Glenn Turner, a lifelong Miltonian who dedicated 15 years to coaching the Town’s juvenile and junior baseball teams. Turner, also the general manager of the Milton Red Sox, led the team to four Ontario Baseball Association championships. He also played a critical advisory role in creating the baseball diamonds at Milton Community Park and was inducted into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame in 2022.
As part of the Town’s facility naming and renaming policy, residents were invited to provide feedback on the proposed renaming via Let’s Talk Milton, the Town’s online engagement platform, earlier this summer.
New signage will be installed at both baseball diamonds in the coming months to reflect their new names.
