Milton Transit Rolls Out Major Fall Service Enhancements Starting September 2
Milton Transit is set to launch a comprehensive suite of service improvements this fall, aimed at enhancing accessibility, reliability, and convenience for riders across the community. Beginning Tuesday, September 2, residents will see extended weekday evening hours, new Sunday service, and a series of route and schedule adjustments designed to better connect key destinations and accommodate growing demand.
The changes mark one of the most significant seasonal updates to Milton’s transit system in recent years, reflecting the Town’s commitment to evolving with the needs of its residents and supporting sustainable transportation options.
One of the most notable upgrades is the extension of weekday evening service. Most routes will now operate later into the night, with final trips departing Milton GO Station at 10:50 p.m. This expansion is aligned with Specialized Transit and OnDemand services, ensuring that riders who rely on flexible or accessible transit options can continue to travel safely and efficiently during extended hours.
In addition to longer service hours, Milton Transit is implementing minor schedule adjustments across the system to improve reliability and reduce wait times. Routes 2 through 8 will now operate every 35 minutes between noon and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. These refinements are expected to streamline operations and provide more predictable service during peak midday hours.
Several route changes are also being introduced to improve connectivity to key community hubs. Route 3 will be extended to serve the Mattamy National Cycling Centre via Louis St. Laurent Avenue, offering direct access to one of Milton’s premier recreational facilities. Route 6 has been realigned to better serve the Sherwood Community Centre, enhancing access to local amenities and programming. Meanwhile, Route 9 will be replaced with a new and improved all-day Route 9A service, complemented by a newly introduced Route 9B branch that will provide enhanced coverage in the Boyne area.
Milton Transit’s OnDemand service is also undergoing strategic updates. The Milton GO Station will now serve as a transfer point within the Boyne OnDemand zone, improving integration between fixed-route and flexible transit options. Additionally, Route 9B will replace a section of the OnDemand service in the Boyne Zone, offering more consistent and structured service to residents in that area.
For the first time in Milton Transit’s history, Sunday service will be available across all routes starting Sunday, September 7. Buses will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with service frequencies ranging from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the route. This new offering is expected to benefit weekend commuters, families, and individuals attending religious services, recreational activities, or retail destinations.
As students return to class, Milton Transit will resume its secondary school special service routes (50 to 54) on Tuesday, September 2. These routes are tailored to meet the transportation needs of high school students and will operate in coordination with school schedules.
The Town of Milton encourages all transit users to review the updated schedules and route maps available at milton.ca/transit. Riders are also advised to stay informed through the Town’s social media channels and transit alerts, especially during the initial rollout period.
With these enhancements, Milton Transit continues to build a more responsive and inclusive transit network—one that supports the town’s growth, promotes environmental sustainability, and ensures that residents have access to safe, reliable transportation every day of the week.
