In a collaborative effort between residents and the Town, Milton has announced the return of its outdoor neighbourhood ice rink program for a third season, bringing winter fun to local neighbourhoods.
Groups of six or more adults can build and operate a neighbourhood rink in a pre-approved location, provided they meet the criteria and agreed-upon responsibilities to maintain the rink throughout the winter season.
Neighbourhood rinks offer a valuable community-building opportunity, allowing groups of neighbours to come together to build and maintain an outdoor ice rink at a local park for everyone to enjoy, free of charge.
This season marks the third year of the Town’s outdoor neighbourhood ice rink program.
“In its first year, the program generated strong community interest, resulting in enough applications to establish four rinks across Milton. However, due to unfavourable weather conditions, those rinks had a limited operational window,” said Diane Medeiros, communications advisor for the Town of Milton.
The Town encourages workplaces to join in this community initiative, providing a unique opportunity to give back through volunteer efforts.
Last year, the Town received community interest in supporting an outdoor neighbourhood rink at Laurier Park, but mild winter conditions led to a shorter operational period for the rink.
“This season, the Town is optimistic that, with community engagement and favourable winter weather, residents will be able to enjoy outdoor skating throughout the winter,” Medeiros added.
Online applications will close on November 8. For more information about the criteria and responsibilities of the volunteer teams and Town staff, visit Milton.ca/NeighbourhoodRinks.
