This weekend, two neighbourhood outdoor rinks in Milton officially opened, offering residents the perfect way to enjoy the winter season and stay active in their own communities. A third rink is set to open to the public next week.
The 2025 outdoor rink locations include:
Campbellville Park (Old)
Laurier Park
Knight Trail Park (opening soon)
These outdoor rinks are part of Milton’s neighbourhood outdoor rinks program, a community-driven initiative that empowers volunteers to build and operate the rinks. These volunteers work hard to create a free, accessible space for all residents to enjoy skating. The rinks are volunteer-run and unsupervised, with no involvement from Town staff.
“It’s fantastic to see these outdoor rinks open again this winter. My kids absolutely love skating at Laurier Park, and it’s such a great way for the whole family to get outside and stay active. The volunteer-run initiative is amazing—it really brings the community together. We’re lucky to have such a great program in Milton,” said Samantha Green, a Milton parent and resident.
Open to skaters of all ages and abilities, the rinks are available weather-permitting from dawn to dusk. However, some exceptions may occur due to weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to check the rink guidelines before heading out on the ice to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
“We’re excited to open the rinks for another winter season,” said a Town spokesperson. “Thanks to the incredible dedication of our volunteers, Milton residents can enjoy skating right in their neighbourhoods. We invite everyone to come out, have fun, and stay active this winter.”
For those who missed the opportunity to apply for this year’s neighbourhood rink program, there’s no need to worry. Residents can subscribe to the Active in Milton newsletter to stay informed about opportunities to apply next year.
“I’ve been skating at Campbellville Park for years, and it’s always a highlight of the winter season. The outdoor rink gives us a chance to enjoy the winter weather while getting some exercise. It’s especially nice that it’s free and so close to home. A big thank you to the volunteers who make it all happen,” said David Matthews, a long-time Milton resident.
