Indira Naidoo-Harris is officially the Liberal candidate for the newly formed riding of Milton.  The decision was announced at a nomination meeting this past Saturday.  ” I think this is the perfect opportunity to put Milton families first”,Naidoo-Harris said.  The new riding of Milton includes Milton, as well as northern parts of neighbouring Burlington.

Naidoo-Harris serves in Kathleen Wynne’s cabinet as the Minister of the Status of Women, and the Minister responsible for Early Years and Child Care.  “Indira is a strong, passionate advocate for her constituents, and the residents of Ontario,” Wynne said.  Her cabinet colleagues Finance Minister Charles Sousa, and Natural Resources Minister Kathryn McGarry attended the nomination.  What I appreciate most about her is her respect for others, and her humility about serving people.  The job we do is serving people,” Sousa said.

One of the efforts Indira’s been a part of is the “Ask Her to Run” campaign to get more women involved in politics.  “This is about fairness and equity.  Making sure all voices out there in Ontario get a chance to be out there and find a place at the table when it comes to politics,” she said of the initiative.  On social media it’s a hashtag: #askhertorun.  The party has a section of its website where people can submit nominations.

Indira Naidoo-Harris has served as the Halton MPP for three years.  Before entering politics she worked as journalist for numerous outlets including: TVO, Omni Television, CTV, and CBC.  She has lived in Milton for 25 years. The next provincial election is June, 8, 2018.  The Progressive Conservatives (PC’s) have named Parm Gill as their candidate.  The Ontario NDP has not yet held a nomination meeting for the Milton riding.
