The Georgetown Lions Club is accepting nominations for its Citizen of the Year Award and the Lion Fred Zorge Service Club Member of the Year Award.
Residents have until Feb. 20 to submit their candidates.
The Citizen of the Year Award can be bestowed upon an individual, couple, group or organization that has served the Georgetown community “as an outstanding volunteer, in sports, culture, health or social services,” the Georgetown Lions Club stated in a Jan. 9 news release.
“Many times, the recipients have volunteered in multiple organizations over many years,” the release said. “Each year the selection committee is amazed at the level of commitment that these worthy volunteers have shown the community.”
The previous year’s recipient, honoured in a ceremony last March, was the Georgetown Bread Basket.
Additionally, the Lion Fred Zorge Service Club Member of the Year Award was established in 2018 and recognizes “an outstanding member of any service club operating in Georgetown.”
The club also emphasized that for the committee to make an informed decision, “we require a complete application or letter, not just the name of the nominee.”
Past nominations are carried forward for two years and will be reconsidered.
Those wishing to nominate an outstanding volunteer for either award can fill out an application form on the club website or return it to Lions Club Citizen of the Year, P.O. Box 73, Georgetown, Ont., L7G 4T1, or email doug1951.p@gmail.com.
