In response to a series of hate-motivated offences in Oakville, the Halton Police have taken a significant step forward by arresting an individual and laying multiple charges. Over the past few months, the 2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau has been actively probing a string of incidents characterized by the appearance of anti-2SLGBTQI+ messages, derogatory slurs spray-painted onto buildings, and distressing symbols like swastikas etched into windows and mirrors.
The locations affected by these hateful acts include two places of worship, a public library, a public school, and a local business, amplifying the sense of concern within the community. On October 17, 2023, Neil Jensen, a 28-year-old resident of Oakville, was taken into custody in connection to these reprehensible offences.
Jensen now faces a series of charges, including six counts of mischief under $5000, uttering death threats, and a substantial eight counts of failure to comply with release order. He is currently being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Investigators have firmly established that these incidents were driven by bias, prejudice, or hate, prompting them to categorize these actions as hate crimes.
