Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced Sunday the province would donate $500,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help with Earthquake relief. ” Our province has a long and proud history of coming to the aid of people around the world in times of disaster, and we will do so again,” Wynne said in a statement. The money will go to helping with emergency supplies for families, and pre-hospital care.

“There are still so many who remain in desperate need of food, water, medical care, shelter and sanitation, Wynne said. An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck the coast of Ecuador on April 16, 2016. An aftershock of 6.2 followed 3 days later. The estimated death toll is now well over 600. Over 20,000 are living in temporary shelters.
The Canadian Red Cross is running a national appeal for donations. Visit their website to learn more, and donate.
