Ontario’s efforts to vaccinate its adult population against COVID19 are moving quicker than expected. The province will open vaccine eligibility to those over the age of 18 beginning May 18, at 8 a.m.
Those turning 18 in 2021 will be able to book their appointments only for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, because that is the only one authorized for use by health Canada for youth between 12-18 years of age. Those eligible can book either through the provincial booking tool or the Region of Halton.
The province hopes to give 65% of all Ontarians their first dose of COVID19 by the end of May. “Ontario continues to ramp up our vaccine rollout, and we remain focused on administering doses to those who are most at risk,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said.
Premier Doug Ford recently announced the extension of stay-at-home orders until June 2, 2021. Residents are remind to continue following all public health protocols including staying at home as much as possible, and wearing a mask in an indoor environment where physical distancing is impossible.
