Ontario has extended the school closures until May 4, 2020. The announce was made by Premier Doug Ford, Education Minister Stephen Lecce, and Colleges and Universities Minister Ross Romano.
They also unveiled the next phase of their Learn At Home initiative, which will include guidelines on how many hours/week students should be spending on their schoolwork for Grades Kindergarten to grade 12. “We will do whatever it takes to keep students safe from COVID-19 which is why we have extended the school closure period and why we have unveiled a teacher-led program that keeps students learning while at home, Lecce said. Specific focuses will vary based on the year.
The closures will also affect privately licensed childcare centres, private schools, and EarlyON programs. These will remain shutdown until April 13 under the Emergency Declaration, which, only allows for 2 week closures at a time. Select centres are being reopened to serve frontline healthcare workers, and First Responders. To learn more about Learn at home visit their website
