The province of Ontario is extending the electricity rate relief for Ontarians because of the Stay-At-Home Order as part of the response to the province’s second wave of COVID-19 .
“We know staying at home means using more electricity during the day when electricity prices are higher, that’s why we are extending the off-peak electricity rate to provide households, small businesses and farms with stable and predictable electricity bills when they need it most,” Minister of Energy, Indigenous Affairs, and Northern Development and Mines Greg Rickford said. The rates will remain at 8.5 cents per kilowatt-hour until February 9, 2021 for time-of-use, and tiered customers.
Ontarians are invited to apply for support for the COVID-19 Energy Assistance program (CEAP) for aid. Residential customers are elgible for $750 to help with overdue electricity and natural gas bills, while small businesses are eligible for $1500 on each bill. Businesses can apply for Energy and Property tax rebates through the COVID-19 Business Support Grants if they are required to shut down or significantly alter their operating hours due to provincial restrictions.
Ontario has officially extended its state-of-emergency, and Stay-At-Home order until February 11, 2021.
