Ontario Readies to Accelerate Vaccine Rollout

Ontario is preparing to accelerate its vaccine rollout.  The move comes as supplies begin to stabilize with additional shipments of Pfizer expected through the month of May.

“Ontario’s vaccine rollout is continuing to focus on those most at risk,” Health Minister Christine Elliott said.  The province expects 800,000/ week in early May, increasing to 940,000 doses per week by the end of the month.

The province will look to allocate 50% of the shipments into hotspots.  Residents 16 years of age and older living in Milton with the postal code starting with L9E will be able to sign up for appointments beginning tomorrow through the Region Of Halton’s website.

The province will also be adding a pilot project using the Pfizer vaccine through select pharmacy locations in hot spots for residents 55 years of age and over.  These include eight stores in Peel, and 8 in Toronto will be receiving 150 doses/ week.  The pharmacies will be using their own systems for booking.

Peel Public Health is working with Peel based employers to bring the vaccine clinics to them.  “With the increase of vaccine supplies, workplace vaccination clinics have begun this week and we are focusing our immunization efforts in areas where COVID-19 is spreading rapidly,” Solicitor General Sylvia Jones said.  Maple Lodge Farms, and Maple Leaf Foods have begun vaccinating their employees this week.  For more information on hosting workplace clinics visit this website
