Ontario is celebrating the contributions of more than 11,000 volunteers at 54 Ontario Volunteer Service Awards ceremonies across the province from March to June.
Liz Sandals, Minister of Education, will be in Guelph this evening to kick off the province-wide ceremonies and recognize 148 volunteers who have dedicated their time to the Guelph community.
The awards recognize people across Ontario for volunteering their time to organizations like the Canadian Red Cross and Girl Guides of Canada, and helping out with community volunteer projects like organizing science fairs, planting trees, helping seniors stay active and welcoming newcomers. “These awards are our way of saying thank you for their significant contributions, Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade said.
Certificates and customized trillium pins will be awarded to people with five to 60 or more years of service. Youth will also be recognized for two or more years of volunteer service.
