Ontario to Improve Milton Go Station, add 850 parking spots

Ontario is moving forward with the redevelopment of Milton GO Station, to make taking public transit easier and more convenient for commuters and families in Milton.

Steven Del Duca, Minister of Transportation, and Indira Naidoo-Harris, MPP for Halton, were at Milton GO Station today with Milton Mayor Gord Krantz to announce the next steps to design, build and finance the redevelopment of Milton GO Station.  “These investments will have a significant impact on the lives of commuters in our growing area,” Naidoo-Harris said.

The Milton GO Station redevelopment and expansion will include:

• A new station building
• Upgraded parking lot with additional 850 parking bringing the total to approximately 2,300 spaces
• Reconfiguration of parking lot layouts, bus loop, and passenger pick-up/drop-offs
• Accessible connections to train and bus platforms
• Upgraded  platforms and infrastructure to support future layover of trains
• Improved pedestrian connections and bicycle storage.

This station redevelopment is part of the largest rail project in Canada as Ontario transforms GO from a commuter transit system to a regional rapid transit system.   “Milton Council and residents welcome today’s announcement of plans to proceed with GO Station enhancements, including improved pedestrian access, additional surface parking, and easier connections to Milton Transit,” Mayor Gord Krantz said.

Weekly trips across the entire GO rail network will grow from about 1,500 to nearly 6,000 by 2024-25, with more frequent rush-hour service coming to the Milton line.   Metrolinx recently revealed a “Go Station Access Plan” at an October appearance before Milton Town Council.

Sources indicate the province is  sending a request for Qualifications (RFQ) looking for interested groups to design, build, and finance the Milton corridor project.  They hope to have shovels in the ground by next fall (2018.)

Milton Announces Third Quarter Transit Numbers

Metrolinx’s announcement follows a third quarter where Milton Transit ridership increased 13% in 2017.  The transit service added two new routes, as well evening service to as late as 11 p.m.  More schedule adjustments have also been made to better connect passengers with Go Transit.  More information on Milton Transit can be viewed through their website
