The 2025 federal election is now underway, with voting day scheduled for April 28, 2025. As part of a boundary review, Milton has been divided into two ridings: Burlington North- Milton West, and Halton Hills South- Milton East. To help voters make an informed decision, we are doing profiles of candidates from both ridings.April 16 2025, we emailed the same five questions to all candidates, giving a week in which to answer them.  The final profiles will be posted in the order they are received.

Walter Hofman is running for the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) in the riding of Milton East- Halton Hills-South.

1) According to Halton Regional Police, 52 cars have been stolen since January 1, of this year. What would your party do to stop it?

Walter Hofman:

  • Work with provinces to reduce fraudulent vehicle registration
  •  Work with auto industry to create improved and innovative anti-theft protection.
  •  Work with Interpol in improved detection of stolen vehicles abroad
  •  Work closer with ports and rail yards to improve stolen vehicle detection
  • Work with Canada Border Security Agency to stop stolen cars leaving and entering the country
  • Amend criminal code to reflect harsher sentencing and bail

2) The average house price in Milton is $1,003,587. What is your party’s plan to make housing more affordable?

Walter Hofman:
  • Reduce Bank of Canada inflation target from 2% to zero.
  • Restrict foreign home buyers who speculate
  • Reduce immigration numbers 500,000 to 100,000 until market cools down.
  •  Speed up slow co structure rates with less bureaucracy and and reduce regulatory barriers.
  •  Reduce and remove inter-provincial trade barriers to make products across Canada more affordable and accessible.
 3) What makes your leader the best suited to be Prime Minister?

Walter Hoffman:

  • His priority is a Canada first, pro-Canadian focus that denounces mass immigration , extreme multiculturalism, climate alarmism and corporate welfare.
  •  His platform is a common-sense, pro-right true conservative initiative that prioritizes Canadian values and traditions, not radical gender ideology, woke DEI programs or the sexual indoctrination of our learning institutions in place of education.
  • His fiscal policy is to balance the Canadian budget within his first term to restore stability and reason back into our economy.
  • The guide posts of Individual freedom, personal responsibility, fairness and respect that characterize his policies will return us to the moral and social fabric that made Canada the envy of the world.

4) How will your party help farmers and the agriculture industry negate the impacts of climate change?

Walter Hofman:

  • Withdraw from Paris Accord and unrealistic greenhouse gas emission reduction targets
  • Abolish carbon tax
  • Phase out supply management over years and compensate farmers for lost value on their quotas.
  • Advocate for free trade internationally and provincially
  • Ongoing consultation with the provinces to monitor progress, improve innovation and meet the evolving and distinctive needs of the unique communities that constitute our vast magnificent country.

5) The CN Intermodal, and the Campbellville Quarry are two projects that have faced strong opposition in Milton. How do you intend to advocate on these issues on behalf of your constituents?

Walter Hofman:

  • 2018 the citizens, under G. Minakakis, formed ACTION Milton in opposition to the Quarry. Doug Gord said NO in July 2020. Milton Town Council opposed it for dust, air pollution, water pollution, community disruption and its impact on the housing market.
  • Some $30 million has already been spent opposing the proposed CN Intermodal.
  •  Once these matters end up in the courts, the outcome is always unpredictable, but until then the community is entitled to oppose such developments and, as an elected representative, I would consider it my obligation to stand with them through thick and thin, exploring every possible avenue until we’ve exhausted our options.
