Public Comment Invited On Proposed Milton Logistics Facility

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the Canadian Transportation Agency invite the public to comment on the draft Agreement to Establish a Review Panel for the proposed Milton Logistics Hub project in Milton, Ontario.

Once final, the Agreement will establish the mandate and authority of the review panel, as well as the procedures and timelines for the conduct of the review under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 and the Canada Transportation Act.

The public, Indigenous groups and governments are invited to submit written comments on the draft Agreement in either official language by July 11, 2016.

A resource document to assist participants in submitting comments on the draft Agreement is available on the public registry. Documents submitted as part of the review will be considered public, and will be posted on the online registry. After taking public comments into consideration, the Agreement will be finalized and made public.

C.N owns 1,000 acres on the south side of Milton.  They brought forward a proposal for 400 acre Intermodal facility in 2015 to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (C.E.A.A.)  Under the Railway Act C.N. can build 100 acres to either side of the rail without planning permissions.  They have chosen to go through a federally regulated process because they argue they are in a federally regulated industry.

Raitt Presents Intermodal Petitions to House of Commons:

The proposed development has faced substantial opposition from local government, and the community.  There are two local citizens’ groups in opposition: Milton Says No, and Milton Residents Affected by Intermodal Locations (Milton R.A.I.L).  Both have had petitions circulating for signatures.  On the week of June 7, Milton M.P. Lisa Raitt  presented a petition with 4,000 signatures gathered by both groups in the House of Commons.  Raitt recognized the leadership of Rita Vogel Post, Stacey Newman, and local politicians.
