Milton Council approved a milestone report for Sherwood Community Centre at their September 24, 2018 meeting. The project is on currently on schedule and within the approved budget. The facility is slated to be commissioned in spring 2019 and open to the public in late summer 2019.
“It is exciting to see construction of this facility moving forward and I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the project team to keep it on time and on budget” said Commissioner, Community Services, Kristene Scott. “We are looking forward to adding another multi-purpose facility to the community for Miltonians to use and enjoy”
Construction work completed to date includes all below grade civil engineering work, concrete footings, installation of structural steel and joists, metal deck, installation of refrigeration lines for the rinks, pouring of the concrete slabs, grading for parking lots, excavation and construction of the pool, and several walls of block masonry.
A community meeting, was held in May 2018, to gather feedback on a number of items related to the facility including recreation programs, library programs/services and design options for the park located on the site. The concept plan for the park elements was approved by Council in July, 2018.
The Sherwood Community Centre is located on the north side of Main Street West, east of Tremaine Road. It will feature a flexible, multi-use design to accommodate an assortment of activities for people of all ages and abilities. It will include a twin pad arena, aquatic pools (25-metre and leisure/therapeutic), active living studio, multi-purpose space and a branch library. The facility is scheduled to open to the public in late summer 2019.
