The Halton Police have arrested three persons who have been charged after months of investigation into a fatal vehicle rollover and subsequent drug and firearm investigation stemming from a Jan. 2024 incident in Burlington.

The rollover occurred at 3:43 a.m. on the westbound QEW off-ramp at Brant Street, where police found four occupants—three men and one woman—who had been ejected from a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Tragically, one of the men succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

At the scene, officers recovered a quantity of fentanyl and cocaine, along with an unlicensed firearm. The Ontario Provincial Police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit led the collision investigation, while HRPS focused on drug and weapons-related offences.

After months of investigation, three individuals now face charges. On Sept. 17, 2024, the police arrested Preet Dhami, 25, of Brampton. Dhami faces charges for possession of trafficking (fentanyl and cocaine), possession of identity documents (two counts), and failure to comply with a probation order. Dhami was released on an undertaking and is scheduled for a future court date.

On Oct. 25, 2024, Mustafa Ta’amneh, 46, of Mississauga, already in custody on unrelated charges, was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including possession for trafficking (fentanyl and cocaine), unauthorized firearm possession in a motor vehicle, weapons trafficking, and breach of a prohibition order. Ta’amneh remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Most recently, on Oct. 27, 2024, police arrested Nitish Oberoi, 34, of Brampton, charging him with possession for trafficking (fentanyl and cocaine) and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. Oberoi was released on an undertaking with a future court appearance.
