The Town of Milton is inviting residents to an open house event where they can learn about various planning initiatives that will shape the community’s growth and future.

The open house, taking place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, will feature the Housing Strategy, which outlines a vision for meeting the housing needs of both current and future residents. Other key planning projects, including the new Official Plan – We Make Milton, the Agerton Secondary Plan, and updates on rural Additional Residential Units (ARUs), will also be highlighted.

“We are thrilled to welcome people back to one of our open house events for planning projects,” said Jill Hogan, Commissioner of Development Services. “This is a great opportunity to learn from each other, exchange ideas, and work together to help shape the future of Milton.”

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, located at 1010 Main St. E. The open house will feature an informal drop-in format, allowing residents to speak directly with knowledgeable Town planning staff. Accessible display boards will explain each planning topic in detail.

The Housing Strategy will be a key feature of the event, with attendees invited to provide feedback on the draft vision, directions, and actions outlined to meet Milton’s housing needs. The strategy aims to address the growing demand for housing as Milton’s population expands, ensuring that the town can provide suitable living options for both current and future residents.

The We Make Milton initiative, which is part of the new Official Plan, encourages community engagement to ensure that the plan accurately reflects the needs and desires of residents. Town staff will present draft policies, discuss the changes Milton is experiencing, and explain how residents can get involved in shaping the future of the community through the planning process.

The Agerton Secondary Plan is another key focus of the event. This plan supports Milton’s next phase of growth and includes a proposed major transit station near Derry and Trafalgar roads. The aim is to create a complete community with improved access to transit and mixed-use development that will provide a balanced and sustainable environment for residents.

Finally, the Town of Milton is reviewing and updating its Official Plan policies and zoning by-law regulations to permit additional residential units in rural areas, where allowed by provincial policies. This initiative is intended to offer more housing options while maintaining the rural character of the affected areas, providing more choices for residents in Milton’s rural communities.

Residents are encouraged to attend and provide valuable input on these important projects.
