Trudeau Speaks on US Election Results

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has broken his silence on the US Election results. “On behalf of the Government of Canada, I congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as the next President and Vice President of the United States of America,” he said.

The Presidential Election was held November 3, 2020.  It took until today to process enough votes in order to declare Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris presumptive President, and Vice President Elect.  Official results declared by American Media:  293 to 213 Electoral College Votes.

“Canada and the United States enjoy an extraordinary relationship- one that is unique on the world stage.  Our shared geography, common interests, deep personal connections, and strong economic ties make us close friends, partners and allies.  We will further build on this foundation as we continue to keep our people safe and healthy from the impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, and work to advance peace and inclusion, economic prosperity, and the climate action around the world. ” Trudeau continued.  The Canada-US border has been closed to all non-essential traffic since March.

Trudeau ends his statement with saying that he is looking forward to working with the new American administration “as we tackle the world’s greatest challenges together”.

Trump refuses to concede

President Donald Trump has refused to officially concede the race.  In a statement accusing  President Elect Joe Biden of “rushing to falsely pose as the winner” he detailed his next steps. “Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure our election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated,” Trump said.

His lawyers have been in court in Pennsylvania, and Michigan alleging voter fraud, and that his poll watchers (scrutineers) were not being allowed to observe the count.  It was Pennsylvania that put Biden and Harris over the top, with 20 electoral college votes.  The Electoral College meets early next month to certify the results.
