Police have arrested two suspects and laid multiple charges following a violent home invasion and car theft on Thursday, Nov. 7, in Oakville.

In the early hours of Nov. 7, a group of suspects forced open the front door of a residence on Bellwood Avenue in Oakville. The suspects confronted an occupant in a bedroom, demanding money. During the struggle, the male occupant was repeatedly struck in the head, face and upper body. The suspects then took the keys to a Mercedes parked in the driveway and used it to flee the scene.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Two District Criminal Investigations Bureau launched an investigation. By late Thursday afternoon, police had tracked down and arrested two suspects in Toronto, recovering the stolen Mercedes.

Jayden Batiste, of Vaughan, and Dyante Johnson, of Brampton, both 18, face multiple charges, including aggravated assault, robbery, break and enter, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Batiste is also charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and failure to comply with a release order. Both suspects remain in custody, awaiting a bail hearing in Milton.

Superintendent Dave Costantini criticized the violent break-in and theft.

“Breaking into a residence at 2 a.m., violently assaulting a sleeping resident in his bed, all in an effort to steal his car — incomprehensible,” Costantini said. “Two offenders, arrested while occupying the victim’s stolen car, are facing charges for previous offences. Unconscionable. Our officers will continue to relentlessly pursue all those who threaten the safety and security of our residents.”
